Best of the Area is the Iowa City Press-Citizen's annual citizen vote on the best aspects of the greater Iowa City/Coralville area.

This year, we have expanded voting to more than 60 categories, ranging from restaurants and food to shopping and senior activities.

It’s not surprising that Iowa City’s favorite watering hole is also one of its oldest. Joe’s Place has been serving up drinks to Hawkeye fans for more than 75 years. In recent years, the 21-only bar has made moves to keep up with the times while staying true to its roots.
