Whitey's ice cream was founded in 1933 by Chester “Whitey” Lindgren in Moline, Ill., It wasn’t until 1977 that Whitey’s opened a second shop in Moline, and since then, nine more Whitey's shops have opened in the Quad Cities as well as the locations in Iowa City and Coralville. The slow expansion has ensured that Whitey’s hasn’t lost its small-town charm, and its delicious dairy has been voted the area’s favorite ice cream for the past nine years.
