Best of the Area

Best of the Area is the Iowa City Press-Citizen's annual citizen vote on the best aspects of the greater Iowa City/Coralville area.

This year, we have expanded voting to more than 60 categories, ranging from restaurants and food to shopping and senior activities.

Carlos O’Kelly’s

Carlos O’Kelly’s is the winner of two of our new Best of the Area categories: Best salsa and best margarita. The chain restaurant is based largely in the Midwest with three locations in Virginia. The salsa comes out right away, in hot and mild varieties, along with complimentary tortilla chips. And, according to the company Web site, you can’t imagine a St. Patrick’s Day without margaritas. The Mexican restaurant also plays host to weekly radio shows for Hawkeye coaches Kirk Ferentz, Todd Lickliter and Lisa Bluder.
