Best of the Area is the Iowa City Press-Citizen's annual citizen vote on the best aspects of the greater Iowa City/Coralville area.

This year, we have expanded voting to more than 60 categories, ranging from restaurants and food to shopping and senior activities.

Midtown Family Restaurant

The two Midtowns in town cater to all ages, but are particularly popular with the senior set. It’s famous comfort food is largely hand made, with staff breading the onion rings and tenderloins, hand cutting the chicken-fried steak and making its own brown gravy and mashed potatoes. The place is really hopping on hand-breaded shrimp night, available the third Friday of the month at the Scott Court location and the first Friday of the month at the Highway 1 location.
