Mug shot of winner

It seems we have a new "best bank" every year, but this time, University of Iowa Community Credit Union managed to pull off a repeat. The toughest competition has come from past winners Hills Bank and MidWestOne, but this year, U.S. Bank and Wells Fargo also made a run at the title. Originally formed in 1938, UICCU is no longer an official arm of the University of Iowa, but membership is still open to UI alumni as well as residents and workers in 41 Iowa counties. UICCU has more than 90,000 members and $1.4 billion in assets. Jeff Disterhoft has been CEO since 1999.

What voters said:

  • “TOP SERVICE! No crazy fees, no minimum balances, I can pay my credit card or mortgage bill at the branch instead of sending it somewhere, low interest rates on the credit cards...I could go on and on!!”
  • “I come from a small town that had a close knit community bank that I was afraid of leaving. UICCU has the best customer service and nicest tellers that make me feel better about where my money is.”
  • “Nonprofit, helping the local community, its members, and keeping competing banks competitive. Amazing savings rate, too.”

Runners-up: Hills Bank and Trust Co, MidWestOne Bank, U.S. Bank, Wells Fargo
